🕘 9:26 AM, Cleveland, Ohio — Guests (who weren’t on the reservation) stormed out of our unit yelling:
“That’s what the f** we said. The reservation is not in our name. We don’t care. You wanna charge us for breaking your s***? That’s just gonna stop the other person from booking with Airbnb… Come oooon!!”*
😮
They admitted it. They didn’t book. They trashed the place. They threatened us with a car in our own driveway.
This isn’t the first time this has happened. It’s just the first time someone used their car as a weapon.
And what’s worse? We waited over two hours for Airbnb to respond to the call.
We’re tired. This is starting to feel unsafe.
We built this business to offer affordable, quality hospitality. Not to get screamed at in our own homes. Not to be threatened over a $90 booking.
We run the same exact model in Brazil. Same price. Same system. None of this.
So what’s going on?
💬 We’re asking the StayWithJay community to weigh in:
What would you do?
🔐 Should we require video ID for same-day bookings?
🚫 Should we ban late-night arrivals completely?
💻 Should Airbnb auto-flag identity mismatches for review?
Or… Is this just the cost of hosting now?
Let’s talk about it. Because if hospitality means putting your life on the line for a stranger who doesn’t even use their real name…
Then maybe we all need to rethink what we’re doing.
